Thanks for visiting my fundraising page! I'm playing in the Changemaker Cup Football Tournament in support of Grassroot Soccer on 27 May. The funds we raise are critical to providing life-saving adolescent health programmes through sport. Help us reach our goal of raising £20,000 for Grassroot Soccer's incredible mission ahead of the event! Grassroot Soccer is an adolescent health organization that leverages the power of soccer to equip young people with the life-saving information, services, and mentorship they need to live healthier lives. In its more than 20-year history, Grassroot Soccer programs have reached more than 25 million young people, building their assets (health knowledge and the confidence to use it), improving their access to high-quality health services, and increasing their adherence to crucial treatments and healthy behaviours. The largest generation of adolescents are coming of age, but in the highest-need parts of the world, they are being left behind when it comes to their health. In Sub-Saharan Africa (which has more adolescents than anywhere in the world), HIV is still a leading cause of death, young people are at an even higher risk of experiencing anxiety and/or depression, and adolescent girls face the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the world. Grassroot Soccer programs use soccer games and metaphors to teach young people life-saving health information. Young, local leaders serve as “Coaches” to teach Grassroot Soccer’s activity-based programs and serve as trusted mentors, making learning about tough health topics fun so young people are truly engaged, they want to participate, and lessons stick.
